Granite worktops benefit from resealing about once a year, which protects against staining and keeps the surface looking as good as day one. Quartz needs no sealing whatsoever, just a regular wipe down with soapy water. In commercial settings or households with heavy daily use, that lower maintenance often makes quartz the more practical choice, though plenty of customers still pick granite for the character it brings to a kitchen. Chopping directly on either surface isn't recommended, a board protects the worktop and your knives both.
