Materials & Craftmanship
Selecting Your Material
We highly encourage you to visit our Biggleswade showroom to explore our full-size stone slabs. Natural stone like granite holds inherent, beautiful variations in veining and tone that a small sample cannot fully represent. Engineered quartz offers greater consistency, though subtle shade differences still exist due to the natural quartz content.
Our Material Guarantee
We source only the finest, highest grade materials from a trusted network of premium suppliers. Our uncompromising commitment to quality control ensures your worktop investment resists scratches, stains, and heat, completely guaranteeing a lifetime of performance in the heart of your home.
Experienced Craftsmanship
We have been hand-crafting exquisite kitchen surfaces for over 30 years. Our expert team manages the entire process seamlessly, from initial laser templating and advanced workshop fabrication to meticulous final installation, providing a smooth, reliable experience.
Tech Specs & Fitment Details
Technical Planning Guide
Edge Details & Extra Shaping
We offer a variety of edge details to customise your kitchen worktops. While our standard quote includes a classic bevelled or rounded edge, more elaborate options can be chosen to add a unique touch, though some complex styles may impact the final cost. Please ensure any steps back and forth (break-fronts), radius points, or larger proposed curves are highlighted on your drawings at the time of quotation.
Sink Openings & Cut-Outs
Surface-mounted sinks require large cut-outs in the stone. If the sink is exceptionally deep, our stonemasons will assess and reinforce the remaining stone support to eliminate weak points. For Belfast and Butler style sinks, flat-polished exposed edges with a small top bevel are utilised, though premium DuPont or Ogee edge profiles cannot be run around a sink opening. Under-mounted sinks require a cost allowance for extra internal polishing, a minimum 65mm gap between double bowls, and fitment to a substantial sub-base set 3mm lower than the flush surface of the kitchen units prior to our templating stage.
Recessed Drainer Areas & Grooves
To create a recessed drainer, the stone surface in the sink area is machined out to a depth of approximately 3–4mm. This area can be single-sided, slightly sloping for a Butler sink, or a level recess surrounding an under-mounted sink. Please note that machined recessed areas may appear slightly different in colour or texture shade compared to the un-recessed, original polished surface. Our standard quotes allow for five straight drainer grooves, 400mm long, with a slight slope falling towards the sink.
Hobs & Range Cookers
For accurate cutting, hobs must be on-site, disconnected, and available for our team during templating, surface-mounted flush hobs may require the appliance to be brought back to our manufacturing base for safe, precision matching. Completed hob cut-outs are unpolished below the surface and include a built-in clearance tolerance to allow for heat expansion without cracking the glass appliance surface. Please note we are not qualified to carry out any electrical or gas connections. Range cookers (such as Agas) must be fully installed prior to templating, allowing for a standard 5mm manufacturer clearance tolerance against the flat-polished stone edges.
Upstands, Back-Panels & Window Sills
Upstands are normally 20mm thick, between 40mm and 100mm high, and are cut from the same stone slabs as your main worktop to guarantee the closest practicable material match. Natural stone upstands do not bend, meaning older properties with uneven walls or timber beams will require shorter lengths or filling behind the stone to achieve a flush finish. Adding a matching window sill or back-panel finishes the kitchen design beautifully, and it is highly cost-efficient to manufacture these from the same slab selection simultaneously.

Planning Your New Kitchen Surfaces
Our team are always on hand to help answer any questions you may have. Read our frequently asked questions, or contact us to have a chat.
At what stage of my kitchen renovation should I book the templating appointment?
Templating can only take place once all of your kitchen base units are completely fixed in their final, permanent positions and leveled. All appliances, including your sinks, taps, hobs, and range cookers, must be on-site so our team can record laser-accurate dimensions. Once templates are secured, the kitchen units must not be moved or adjusted in any way. If you need recommendations for kitchen installers, let us know.
How long does the process take from templating to the final stone installation?
Because we handle every step of the processing and hand-finishing locally within our own Biggleswade workshop, our turnaround is highly efficient. We strictly coordinate our schedules to minimize downtime, ensuring your custom-cut granite or quartz worktops are ready for installation within a swift, reliable timeframe from the day the templates are finalised.
Can I make changes to my edge profiles or design layouts after you have taken templates?
No changes can be made once the laser templates are signed off and sent to our manufacturing base. Because natural granite and engineered quartz are cut with absolute, millimeter-level precision using advanced machinery, fabrication begins almost immediately. All layout drawings, sink styles, and edge details must be completely finalised before or during the templating appointment.
